Breaking Free from Depression

Breaking Free From Depression

Everyone knows what it’s like to feel lonely, depressed and afraid. The pressure against our emotions can be overwhelming at times. Who hasn’t felt the waves of darkness try to take over their soul? I think we’ve all felt that at times. The devil wants to get you into a place of darkness and keep you there so you will lose hope and quit.

The truth is that Jesus has destroyed the works of the devil (1 John 3:18), but we lose sight of that at times. So what the enemy tries to do is paint a hopeless, dark picture of your life so you become discouraged, lonely and depressed. You may be in a place like that right now. Or perhaps you know someone that is in that place.

So how do we break free from that place of darkness? Psalm 119:30 says, “The entrance of His Word brings light.” As we flood the light of God’s Word into our heart, darkness, loneliness & depression flee!

David sure knew what it was like to go through these times of darkness:

The enemy pursues me; he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness
like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. Psalm 143:3-4.

But notice, as this darkness sweeps over his soul and overwhelms him, he remembers the Word of God. Let’s look at how he breaks free from this depression & darkness:

In fact, here are seven simple steps out of loneliness, depression & fear based on Psalm 143:

  1. Remember what God has done.
“I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.” (Verse 5)
Deliberately go back and look at what God has already done for those in the Bible, and deliberately go back and look at what God has done in your life.
  2. Worship God.
No matter what it feels like, lift your hands and voice to God in thanks. Worship Him because He is so good; even when things don’t look so good.
“I spread out my hands to you.” (Verse 6)
  3. Listen for God’s immediate response.
In fact, ASK for a quick response from God; and expect to hear an answer; expect a door to open.
    “Answer me speedily.” (Verse 7)
  4. Greet your day meditating on God’s love for you.
This sets the course of your day.
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.” (Verse 8).
The greatest happiness in life is the assurance that we are loved. Find one verse each day about God’s love, until it drives out all fear and loneliness.
  5. Ask God for wisdom!
Ask Him to show you the way you should go today!
“Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” (Verse 8)
  6. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you, teach you and empower you today!
“Teach me to do your will,…may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” (Verse 10)
  7. Remind God of His covenant.
He swore with His blood that He would keep His promises to you. Ask Him to deliver you completely out of the specific trouble you are in.
“For your name’s sake, LORD, preserve my life;in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.” (Verse 11)

Remember, it’s the entrance of His word that brings light. Darkness has to flee when you turn the light on. Never forget that God loves you; He’s with you; and He’s on your side. When you believe that, everything’s going to be alright!

How To Hear The Voice of God

How To Hear The Voice of God

The life of every great man and woman in the Bible was marked by the ability to hear and recognize the voice of God. As clearly as He spoke to these men, He has promised to speak to us as well.

God has not stopped talking and revealing Himself to His people. Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” The Bible you hold in your hand is the primary instrument through which God will speak to you.

Let’s look at some practical ways in which you can begin to hear the voice of God.

  1. Put yourself in a position to hear God’s voice. Habakkuk 2:1 says, “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say unto me…” How do we do this? By waking up in the morning with the sole objective of hearing God’s voice. Isaiah 50:4 says, “He awakens me morning by morning to listen.” Start your day by deciding not to do anything until you have spent time listening to God.
  2. Listen consistently. Notice the words “morning by morning” in Isaiah 50:4. Each morning we should pray in the spirit, read encouraging scriptures and expect to hear the voice of God. Consistency is the key to anything in our lives. If you will consistently start your day listening to God, you will begin to recognize what He is saying to you all the time.
  3. Never listen to a voice that is contrary to the Word (2 Peter 1:19). God will never speak something contrary to the Bible. For example, some people have thought God was telling them they didn’t need to join a church. However, Psalm 92:13 and 1 Corinthians 12:18 show us that it is God’s will (therefore it is His voice) that we be planted in a church that will help us grow and flourish in God!
  4. Obey Him in the little things that you already know. Luke 16:10 says, “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.” As we are faithful to carry out the simple voice of scripture such as: forgive, serve, tithe, love—then God’s voice will become clearer and clearer in areas of life that are more complicated and harder to figure out.
  5. Keep a soft heart. Hebrews 3:15 says, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.” Here are some simple steps to keep a soft heart:
    • Be willing to do whatever He tells you (before He tells you!)
    • Be thankful for what God has done. A thankful heart is a soft heart.
    • Hold nothing against anyone, for any reason. This includes forgiving yourself. Jesus’ blood was shed for your sins, shortcomings and mistakes! He holds nothing against you! So treat yourself and others the way He treats you. You are forgiven!

God loves you so much that He never wants you to be alone! He will be with you wherever you go and speak to you in every situation in which you will listen with a humble heart. Problems increase in our lives when we don’t listen to God. Solutions come when we hear from God.

Let’s look at some of the benefits of hearing God’s voice.

    1. Rest. Isaiah 28:12 says, “To whom He said, ‘This is the rest with which cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing; but they would not hear (listen).’” Rest speaks of refreshing, and the fulfillment of God’s promises. Hebrews 3:7-19 shows us that God’s people did not enter into His rest because they did not listen to His voice. Therefore, the more we learn to listen to His voice, (with the intent to obey), the more rest, refreshing and fulfillment we will experience.
    2. Peace. Psalm 85:8 says, “I will hear what God, the Lord will speak. He will speak peace to His godly ones.” God promises peace to those who listen. The Hebrew word for peace, “shalom” means “nothing is missing and nothing is broken.” It means to be made whole, to be secure, to have confidence and triumph over opposition.
    3. Supernatural Deliverance. In 2 Samuel 5:17-23 David seeks for direction from God on what to do about the Philistine army. God then speaks to him and gives him a strategy that results in David’s victory and his enemy’s defeat. This is exactly what God will do for you when you listen for His voice. But keep in mind, His strategy will not always make sense to your “natural” mind. You must be “spiritually” minded (Romans 8:5-6).
    4. Favor! Proverbs 8:33-35 says, “Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.
    5. Forward Progress. Look at what God says in this amazing scripture in Jeremiah 7:23-24: “’…Hear My voice, and I will be your God. And you shall be My people…But they did not LISTEN, nor inclined their ears, but walked in the counsels and the imaginations of their evil heart; and WENT BACKWARD, NOT FORWARD.” Wow! How much clearer can God be? When we listen to His voice, we will go forward, make progress and grow. When we don’t listen, we will go backward, lose progress and fail. For the believer who desires to grow, there is absolutely nothing more important in this life than to hear His voice and follow it!

You may say, “But how can I really know if it’s God’s voice that I’m hearing or if it’s just me?” Well, fortunately, your spirit is made in the image of God, so sometimes, the voice you are hearing is the same voice. Your spirit often “echoes” what God is saying.

Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit…” In other words, they sound very similar. But to give you some simple guidelines, you can know it God’s voice when:

It agrees with Scripture.
It agrees with love.
It brings that peace that “surpasses comprehension.”
It brings comfort, encouragement and confidence.
It agrees with the character, love and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Expect God to speak to you today. Expectation is the key to manifestation. You CAN hear His voice. Make a decision to listen with a heart of expectation.

As you listen to the voice of God, (which is the highest form of wisdom) God will open doors for you that no man can close. He will surround you with favor as a shield. And, you will experience His provision, protection and promotion!  Watch my video below to learn even more, and/or order my teaching resources on this topic today.

How To Hear The Voice of God

Breaking the Stronghold of Small Expectations

Breaking the Stronghold of Small Expectations

I can tell you this. . .Satan is a liar. And one of the greatest lies that he has infiltrated the Church with is: small thinking—that we are somehow being holy or humble by thinking small and expecting small.

Hebrews 10:35 says, “Don’t throw away your confidence, which has GREAT reward!

Hebrews 4:16 says that we can “Come BOLDLY to the throne of grace to obtain mercy & find grace to help in our time of need.

God is trying to get this through to us: He wants us to go boldly to Him; ask BIG; Think BIG; and expect GREAT things from Him.

Our Heavenly Father is BIGGER and MORE POWERFUL than anything we are up against. We need to see God that way; and go to Him with that mindset! That’s when miracles happen. Miracles happen in an atmosphere or soil of EXPECTATION.

EXPECTATION is the difference between failure and success, blessing or burden, abundance or lack, even sickness or health. In fact, expectation is the secret ingredient behind every great miracle in the Bible!

Friend, don’t limit God in your life! Instead release your faith with BREAKTHROUGH EXPECTATION! Remember what God says in Ephesians 3:20: He is able to do exceedingly abundantly ABOVE and BEYOND all that you can ask or think, according to the power at work within you!

What is that power at work within us? THE POWER OF EXPECTATION!

So, never underestimate the power of expectation. Expect God’ to strengthen you; expect to be led by His Spirit today and be willing to believe for big things.

David said, “I would have despaired UNLESS I BELIEVED that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13).

You see? God doesn’t want you to define your life by your present circumstances – this world will try to confine you and box you in until you feel hopeless. But God wants to take the limits off and open doors that you’ve never seen opened before! IT’S YOUR TIME!

But you’ve got to raise your expectations and ask for the things that are on your heart.

What do you need God to do in your life today? God’s power is present to do it, and I find it interesting God’s power was always present wherever He was teaching, because God’s Word carries within itself the DNA of your healing, financial blessing, your breakthrough and your miracle!

And while He was teaching…the power of the Lord was PRESENT…” Luke 5:17

God’s power is present to change your life right now!

So, take the limits off and believe that God can do the impossible in your life! Ask God for everything and then when you are done asking Him for everything, ask Him for more!

God loves to bless those who will approach Him with expectancy. Is that greedy? Is that selfish? NO! It’s God’s will for you right now!
